The team at 300 Blankets would like to thank everyone who came and supported Music for Blankets on the 12th of May 2012. The musicians who performed on the night were absolutely sensational! Atkinson Jones; Sophea Hay and Joanna Tran; Graham and Sinead Horne; Joel Velasco, Christian Velasco and Rupert Lugo; Yu Lin and Nathan Liow; Marlon Winterborne; and The Keiths! performed unforgettable sets in front of a full house!
Over 240 people came to support the first 300 Blankets event. Through ticket sales, the BBQ and raffles, we are excited to announce that our supporters have so far helped raise 842 blankets for the homeless community! From a dream of raising 300 blankets in early 2012, this is an absolutely incredible result! We at 300 Blankets would like to thank all the volunteers, performers and artists, Hanover and St Vincent de Paul Society, and sponsors involved in making the night a huge success.
A special thank you to Tony Keenan – CEO of Hanover, for making an inspiring speech about homelessness in Melbourne and the wonderful work done at Hanover.
If you would like to share your photos and videos taken from the night, please send them to email@example.com.

To make sure you don’t go hungry on the night, we’ll be holding a sausage sizzle at the back of Fabrique. The good people at FaresShare and 7 DAY BAKERY have generously donated food that we’ll be serving all night long. So don’t forget to bring your gold coin donations and grab a bite to eat!
FareShare is a small, not-for-profit community organisation operating on a very small budget, and with no operational funding from government. But through the tremendous passion and commitment of staff, volunteers and supporters, continues to increase the amount of food rescued and nutritious meals prepared and given away to charities. FareShare provides free, tasty, nutritious meals to the hungry using donated food not needed by supermarkets, farmers and markets and will be providing the sausages and condiments for the Music for Blankets fundraising sausage sizzle.
About 7 DAY BAKERY
7 DAY BAKERY has been a fantastic supporter of 300 Blankets and will be providing the bread for the sausage sizzle. Specialising in freshly baked breads, cakes and sweets – they can be found at 17 Brentford Square, Forrest Hill.
The journey of 300 Blankets began with a meeting with Brian, a manager of a soup van for St Vincent de Paul. It was in the discussion with Brian that we learnt that the Vinnies soup vans operate every night of the year to support and feed the disadvantaged. On any given night, one soup van serves between 50 to 300 people. Being inspired by the amazing efforts of the soup van team, we decided that we too have to play our part to assist the homeless.
Last year, Vinnies donated 10,000 blankets to the homeless community. However, as the demand for blankets out weighed the supply of donated blankets, they had no choice but to begin purchasing their own blankets to provide to the homeless. This year, 300 Blankets is proud to announce that we will assist Vinnies by donating a portion of the blankets raised at our events to their organisation.
In addition to participating in our fundraising events, we’re proud to announce that St. Vincent de Paul will have collection bins available at both of our events. Come along to the events, bring your old/new blankets and donate them directly to this amazing organisation. If you would like to start donating your blankets now, all Vinnies stores are more than happy to receive washed/dry cleaned blankets all year.
Hi friends, firstly I’d like to thank you all for your show of support. The team at 300 Blankets and I are so excited about the awareness and engagement we’re building about homelessness in our community and our fundraising initiatives.
Recently, I was asked by a friend, “How do people become homeless? Do we know that the money you are raising isn’t given to homeless people with drug cravings?”
My response was, “There are many ways people can become homeless. They include evictions from their homes, financial difficulties due to job loss, relationship breakups, leaving homes due to domestic violence and abuse, they may suffer from mental disorders, gambling addictions, drug addictions – and that is only covering the surface. Homelessness can affect anyone. The money we’re raising to buy blankets isn’t going to discriminate on who gets the blankets. We believe that as human beings, we all deserve the right for the basic elements for survival – food, water, shelter.”
As a quick update, we have been approaching many blanket suppliers and there are many who are eager to assist our initiative through providing competitive prices on blankets. The weather in Melbourne is getting cold and we can’t wait to start raising money to buy blankets and distribute to the homeless community.
We have officially launched our first event!
After months of planning, 300 Blankets have launched the first fundraising event – Music for Blankets. This is an incredible moment for our team. We have been working tirelessly on finding the right location to hold an event that we collectively and as individuals are so excited about. At the same time, we have found some amazing performers who believe in our ethos and have given their time and talents to put on a performance that we believe will convey the message we want to send to the community.
Today, we believe that through hard work and dedication, we have put together what will be a fantastic fundraising event.
We are excited to announce that our friends at Fabrique Bar has generously provided 300 Blankets with the use of their venue and we’ve lined up six live music performances to entertain our supporters.
300 Blankets presents Music for Blankets
Music for Blankets is a live music event. Held at Fabrique bar, the evening will showcase the talents of local bands, singers, musicians and artists. Be entertained by live music performances throughout the night in the main room, and view artwork from local artists on display in the venue. A sausage sizzle will also be running throughout the evening for a gold coin donation.
Come and share a night of fun and entertainment with friends while helping raise funds to support the homeless.
Music For Blankets is going to kick start the 300 Blankets fundraising initiative in an amazing fashion and we can’t wait to see you and your friends all there on the night!
